thoughts: half-chance and free will (at least i think so)

is everything really 'half-chance'? if you believe in God, and that He has a plan for you in your life, and that everything is already more or less worked out (because He's omniscient or all-knowing), so what do the choices you make matter? so what then happens to the issue of 'free will'?

well, a church lay ministry staff i know puts it this way... 'God does have a plan for you, and He knows what the decisions you are going to make. Even if they're wrong, He still gives you the option of choosing when faced with it- otherwise we'd be like robots and the issue of free will would not exist. He lets you make those mistakes but at the same time, every time you seem to get further away from Him as a result, He'll do something to bring you back, unless you've gone past the point of redemption.' well, something like that. (thanks uncle sam)

Sooo.... ifeverythingwasreallyjusthalf-chance then... why did things happen the way they did? Why is it that I became a CG leader, got Elena as my discipleship mentor, got Jiahui as Deputy camp commandant for t-retreat and fellow disciple in training? i guess some things are meant to be known and others aren't.

but i could also look at it this way... Jiahui could have gotten her Cornell application accepted and discipleship and t-retreat would be completely different. If my CG hadn't merged to begin with, perhaps i'd never have known my jie. the possibilities seem endless, but it makes you wonder why things turn out the way they did. They say everything happens for a reason, and that reason is (if you believe in Him) that it's been decided by God i guess. i look at the rest of the things in my life, and on retrospect i realise that somehow i've been blessed, that everything did happen for a reason, which at that point i couldn't see. it's amazing how all the pieces fit together so nicely.

quotes from 'Bruce Almighty'

God: There are only 2 rules- you can't tell people you're God, and you can't affect free will.
Bruce: Can I ask why?
God: Yes, you can! and that's the beauty of it.

Amen to that.

till next time...
