thoughts: the year in thoughts...

what a year it's been. can't remember everything that happened, but i'll try. sorry if i leave out those events that rocked the rest of the world (though they didn't have much of an impact on my own. so i'm being selfish. sorry...)

2003-2004 has been one heck of a year. really. so many things happened, so many changes.

it marked the first full year i started serving in church.... from 1 christmas ('03) to the next ('04). it marked the year i stepped into YLO (and tons of other responsibilities that came along with it). it marked the making of new friends, the handling of events, like t-retreat, youth camp and christmas. it marked a period of growth. it also marked the start of discipleship. and receiving of what some would call 'the gift of encouragement', though everyone thinks it's something that comes naturally.

2004 was the year that GIA broke up. it was also the year Veritas was formed. and it threw me straight into the deep end of being a CG leader (something i thought would never happen, not in my wildest dreams). it caused some pain and animosity to see GIA go and for us to start from scratch... and there were times i thought that Veritas wasn't going to work at all... stepping out of the comfort zone that was such a norm.

2004... the year that i left NS (with a 6-day 'discount'), the year i started uni. surprisingly it felt a little difficult to walk away from my life that i had for the past 2 1/2 years (even though it meant i was now free). i didn't miss the job. i missed the people. and that's why i went back to crash the D & D about a month back.... walking into a whole new environment that was uni life, i found new friends, a new CCA (SWAPS) and a re-entry into school, which surprisingly i had missed. it's not the subjects. it's the people (it's always about the people).

2004... the year that i got so mixed up emotionally.... with crushes that didn't work out, with new friendships and relationships which have become closer than i ever thought i could get. with opening up to people, and being their listening ear when they needed one. the year where old friends moved on (but not out of my life), and new friends came in. where my 21st birthday gave me the chance to relive and reconnect with all my friends who i had missed.

2004... the year that this blog came up. that the whole world, people known and unknown to me got to take a look into the life of the guy they call chris ong. the realisation that sometimes your blog can tell people more than you yourself ever can. and the realisation that when you write, it may be just for yourself, but it's also for an audience. the realisation that what you put up here, for the whole of cyberspace to see, can be a source of encouragement to people, who are inspired by what you pen down....

so has 2004 been a good year? i don't know. depends where you're looking from. personally, i'd say it's alright. because things could be worse. always. when you think that your life is horrible, just look at the world that's around you... 100,000 plus (and counting) people dead from a tsunami, countless people killed in terrorist attacks and the iraq war. diseases like bird flu and SARS. and you think you got it bad?

open your eyes to the big picture, to the greater reality. not just that small bubble we all live in. appreciate what's there. cos the next day, it might be gone.... and when you think things never work out, just remember that 'impossible is nothing'.

till next time...
