thoughts: why we blog...

ever wonder what happens the minute you click 'publish post'? ever wonder the implications of that 1 action? ever wonder why people blog?

to me there are various reasons for blogging. some of us want to be heard, to be noticed, for people to give us attention (even if it means blog reading). so we write for an audience (the way i do). fully aware there will be people out there who read what they write. and if there's someone to read it, why not entertain? it can be about you, or it can be like a story. it's really up to the author.

then there are others, who write for the sake of it. perhaps not for an audience, but just to release, to express (like the way you do it in a diary). sometimes what they write, they don't want others to read, or don't expect others to read because they don't tell anyone it exists (i've had friends who never ever thought i'd read their blogs. you'd be amazed what search engines can do). but that's wishful thinking. because it WILL get read. and you won't even know by who.

the internet is the place all information goes. it gives you an opportunity to be heard, to be noticed, through your chance at self-expression. and it is a mistake to think that no one will find out about what you publish online (though it has been said that raising your voice doesn't mean you'll be heard). it's all fine and good if you know the people reading it. but the trouble is that there are people who you don't know who read it. people as far away as africa, or the US.

basically anyone who has access to a computer and the internet. and that's all the more scary when you DON'T want people to read. so think again before you put something up, before you click 'publish post', especially if you're the 2nd group of people i mentioned. be aware that what you put down is in WRITING (very legitimate form of proof). and well, if things happen, it's a little hard to deny. i write for an audience (as most of you would know by now). not because i want to declare to the world about my life, welcoming voyuerism with open arms, but just putting down my thoughts, so that perhaps some of it helps someone else out there. i write to advise, i write to entertain. i write so that my readers will (hopefully) faithfully read this blog.
