thoughts: and the winner is...

was a little disappointed that as an 'associate' member i couldn't help decide the outcome of the whole thing (ie. i don't have the right to vote). i mean i really wanted to. that's how much swaps means to me. but i'm not a PL or SW major, so i don't have much right to say what should happen. thankfully the whole thing turned out the right way.

looks like sentimentality beat out practicality after all, marginal as it seemed. but boy was it ugly. you could feel it in the air (at least i could. then again maybe cos i was biased. oh well.). but the important thing is that SWAPS remains - for the time-being at least. i guess that with the split of the department, there will always be talk of an eventual split of the society, be it either a gradual or abrupt one. but at least now we know the situation exists and future comms can be prepared for it.

speaking of comms.... 18th stepped down last night. and 19th stepped up. and it made me look back and realise that indeed it has been 1 year. not a very long and painful year, but a year all the same. and that though i'm no PL or SW major, i'm a SWAPS member all the same. and that i've always felt welcome. for other people in those majors who've claimed to be 'shut out', i would think that i would have more right to make that claim over you. at least you can VOTE. i can only sit and watch as the fate of my society hangs in the balance - do you know how helpless that made me feel? DO YOU?. so don't EVER tell me about being SHUT OUT.

to all my friends on the 18th, well... its been one hell of a ride, speed bumps, road blocks et al. at least y'all can say (the guys at least) "ORD LOH!!!" though i was never a member of the 18th, i hung out a lot with you guys, and i'm thankful you always gave me insight to what's going on - all those behind the scenes things, the information that you couldn't tell the members for 'various reasons' - especially the whole issue of splitting. so a big thank you goes out to:

Gene aka 'Boss' (Prez): thanks for keeping me in the loop when things come up. i know that you don't even have to tell me if i ask because i'm not a member of the 18th. but you never looked at it that way. thanks for all the help you've given. always.

Zhisheng and Jean (the 2 VPs): well... though i never quite worked with you guys much, y'all were pivotal in keeping things going. ZS, your advice and help for the FOC video was invaluable. honestly. promise to get you a copy asap. i'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Su Teck (treasurer): well... have to say that i totally respect your money mangement skills man. to think you one-man-show set up the treasury system... but i guess you majored in econs for a reason....

Eugene and Xiayan (Hon-Gens): just like Boss you guys kept me in the loop. and i appreciate it. the advice you've given is really helpful to me, as always. props to both of ya for a very 'zai' job. and thanks for being my bosses' bosses.... speaking of them...

Justina and Julaina (Pubs): my 2 bosses! what can i say? you made my life in sub-comm fantastic. as the only guy and the only non-SW / PL major, there was so much potential for me to be left out. but that never happened.

Farah and Shaun Ong (Acads): hmm. sorry can't say that the dialogues helped me the way they did others. but you guys did a good job. and thanks for being good friends - farah especially. not that shaun isn't a good friend too, but just that you owe me for the massages bro (just kidding).

Lin Yen, Chin Yong and Shaun Goh (Welfare): you. guys. are. amazing. all the events and other things you organised went pretty (make that VERY) well. i swear that Lin Yen is some superwoman or something... you want a definition of dedication, she's your living example.

Giang, Charmaine and Kim (Biz): you guys really know how to do what you do best - MAKE MONEY!!! you don't realise how important it is (then again maybe you do). it keeps things going. and keeps SWAPS from going under (split or no split).

so now, some words to the 19th... you guys are incoming. though some issues you'll face are the same, part of the status quo has changed, so you'll have to deal with that. but this is SWAPS. and i'm pretty sure when help is asked for, help will be rendered. though most of you guys'll be rookies, i'm sure the 18th (and the seniors) will know how to pick who for what. and should my *future* boss need my help, i'll be right there - in my publicity sub-comm. just like the last time.

till next time...
