thoughts: it's been a while since i talked about this...

disclaimer: for those who are wondering, i'm not depressed or anything. just been thinking (again). like i told you guys before, when school starts i have more to post cos there's more to think.

It’s a wonder sometimes how love and romance are things that constantly seem to elude us. Or that even though they may be within our reach, they are still not quite within our grasp. I don’t know about you, but I always look back on all those instances where the could-have-been, should-have-been and the maybe situations never quite happened.

It’s made all the harder by the fact that you’re constantly reminded of the situation by whatever is around you – media, friends, relatives. Somehow, intentionally or otherwise they’re screaming out at you, highlighting your failure in the search for that relationship. And for someone who’s pretty insecure and not confident to begin with, that only makes things worse.

It’s sad when all you know about romance and love are second-hand accounts – from what you see in the media, what you hear and see when you talk those friends of yours who were both lucky and unlucky in terms of the relationships (depending on whether things worked out or otherwise). Living life is all about experiences. And what touch us the most are experiences that are our own. That’s why till we’ve experienced love ourselves, we can only use our imagination to try and understand the feelings that those lucky people try and explain to us. And till we do, we’ll never quite understand.

They say that you never will understand till you experience. That it’s better to have love and lost than never loved at all. That you never know until you try and if you fail, keep trying. But trying and failing just makes you get hurt. And sometimes that means that you’re no longer willing to try. It’s like a vicious cycle, and as it goes on it makes things get worse.

To those out there who have found that relationship and are in it, my message to you is – be grateful, don’t take it for granted, and don’t worry whether it will work out. Take the problems as they come (if they do). Work them out together with your partner. And never do something you’d regret later.

To those like me who are still looking (with little success), I want to say – don’t give up yet. But don’t let your whole life revolve around finding that relationship. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, life goes on anyway. Standing still and looking back on the should-haves and could-haves only prevents you from moving on and moving forward. Don’t give up and watch from the sidelines. And when opportunities come don’t hesitate. So that later on, when you look back you can say ‘I tried’.

To those who thought they found what they were looking for but were mistaken and got hurt, I want to say this to you – don’t be afraid to try again. The wounds will heal with time (long as it may seem). Never close the door on the possibility that one day the dream will come true. Don’t give up looking, but don’t get desperate.

till next time...
