thoughts: a bit at a time...

"And thus we wear down mountains. Water dripping on a stone, dissolving and removing. Changing the shape of the world, one drop at a time.... It depends where the drops fall. In time, they may wash away a valley at least." - Mr Shine, from 'Thud!' by Terry Pratchett.

Changing the shape of the world, one drop at a time. That's how it's always been hasn't it? but everyone who wants to change the world, to make it better for everyone else (of course based on their own definition of 'better') wishes they could do it all at once. like waving a magic wand, and *poof*! but often that doesn't happen. and if it did it usually can't solve the problem.

but that's not how it is. and not many people (seem to) recognise that. to recognise that big changes come from little steps, whose results may not even show up until years (or even centuries) later, and that's provided the 'drops' fall in the right places. all that often doesn't stop people from trying, because these people have the belief. they believe in their dream, or the dream that has been passed on to them. they believe with a passion, which others sometimes consider at best, over-optimism and at worst idealism.

there are things like 'pay it forward', the movie about a boy who wanted to make a difference in the world by doing something good for 3 other people, the only condition being that they 'pay it forward' and in turn help 3 others themselves. it seems so simple, too simple to be believeable. but it worked. that boy believed in a dream. and he got others to believe in it too, and that's why it worked.

wearing down mountains. one drop at a time. impossible you say? perhaps... or perhaps not. one drop may take forever, but a flood over a long period of time? perhaps...

till next time...
