thoughts: standing on the threshold...

life and history are full of significant events. like the independence of this little island i call home, or in some cases, the end of a legacy. the things about these events is that they only come around once (and even if there are similar events and similar situations, it never REALLY is quite the same). and sometimes, you just have to be there to understand it.

some of my friends will obviously know what significant event took place on 20th Jan 2006. but knowing is one thing. experiencing is another. i admit i make it sound so drama, but it really wasn't. an event like this is one where the finality of it and its implications don't sink in until after its over. which effectively was last night.

but things like this - the end of a legacy, the passing of an establishment - much as you like to turn them into something not so sombre or solemn, it doesn't always work. because despite all that, you realise the whole finality of the situation.

the conflict has finally ended. the threshold has been crossed. an old chapter ends as a new chapter begins. i have to say that tough as the last 5 months have been for those involved in their thankless job for which they committed themselves to (i'm not dissing them. REALLY), i'm glad that in some small way i was part of it. that in some small yet indeterminate way i did make a difference. but now, a little shout out and tribute to those who did what they did:

to the 19th and final exco of swaps, i take my hat off to those of you who put your heart and soul into that society. it wasn't easy being the exco who had to do what you did, especially after what you experienced before joining. but you guys did the job you had to do (a hard one at that), and you managed to pull through. thank you for the 5 months or so of work you guys put in, the conflicts and obstacles you overcame, and the determination to see it through to the end. and though some of you seemed to feel that you were being the 'bad' guys, destroying something you yourselves had respect for, i wouldn't have wanted it to go any other way (and i think there're others who share the same sentiments). so to C, CH, E, K, B, SM, YT & CL, if any of you guys read this, i just wanna say thank you.
